Donnie Curtis Franks passed away at the age of 75 on May 29, 2022, at a local hospital in his hometown of Rome, GA. His battle with serious medical issues in recent years showed his courage in facing life challenges with a smile and his infamous humor. Despite all he went through, he came out a hero and stayed strong until the end.
He was born to the late William Franks and the late Lois Hamby Franks on May 30, 1946. After graduating from Coosa High School, Donnie served six years in the United States Army Reserves. He went on to work for Celanese and then General Electric, where he retired shortly before the plant closed.
Donnie was most known for his love of classic cars, especially his beloved Chevrolets, and his auto repair shop. He had incredible knowledge of cars and could fix anything put in front of him. Even if it meant researching the issue for hours on his computer, he never gave up. He could even diagnose issues over the phone and talk someone through how to repair their own car that had broken down on the side of the road. His love for helping people and his giving and forgiving heart are unmatched on this earth. He was of the Christian faith.
Donnie is survived by his beautiful wife of 55 years, the former Ann Boatner, to whom he was married on March 17, 1967; two daughters, Stacy Stewart and Pam Hastings (Kevin); four grandchildren, Jake, Chelsey, and Riley Johnson, and Eva Hastings; a great-grandson, Jaxson Johnson; a brother, Leonard Franks (Pat); nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by a daughter, Lori Ann Franks, by a granddaughter, Brinnley Ann Hastings, and by his siblings Ed Franks, Eloise Didrick, Linda Johnson, and Alene Tant.
