Betty Jane Taylor Barnard 81, loving mother and grandmother, passed away after a short illness on Monday, April 4th at Floyd Medical Center.
She was born August 16, 1940, to Randolph and Ruby Mae Taylor. She was raised in Rome, Ga alongside her brother James. Betty Jane would go on to raise her sons, Jimmy and Randall Bice before moving to Centre, AL with her husband George Barnard in 1993 where they enjoyed retirement together. Betty Jane’s love for others was evident in her daily life as she worked as a nanny and caregiver to numerous adults and children through the years. “Mrs. Jane” as she was affectionately known as, loved the children she cared for the same way she loved her own. It filled her with immense happiness to watch her “Bunnies” grow into successful adults with their own spouses and children. “Grandmama” found the most joy spending time with her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. Growing up, her grandchildren have fond memories spending weekends at her house making mud pies, climbing the magnolia trees and filling their bellies with her famous spaghetti and chicken and dumplings. Her grandchildren were the pride and joy of her life. The legacy of her kind spirit, loving smile and zest for life will live on through them. Even as her family grew with the addition of numerous great grandchildren, she would never miss a family event or commitment. It didn’t matter if it was a birthday party, t-ball or football game, recital or school program, Grandmama was always there. She found great pride in having her great granddaughter Mollie “Mae” named after her mother and youngest great-grandchild, Briggs “Taylor” named after her.
Betty Jane is survived by her sons, Jimmy (Judy) Bice and Randall Bice. Her Grandchildren, Ashley (Josh) Carr, Tara (Chad) Matthews, Heather Barton, Jenna (Ethan) Carpenter, Haley Bice (Bryan Phillips), Joshua Green, Jason (Christina) Green and 11 Great-Grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, George Barnard, Brother James Taylor and Daughter in Law, Fran Bice.
Pallbearers include Joshua Green, Jason Green, Josh Carr, Chad Matthews, Ethan Carpenter, Bryan Phillips and Brandon Pilcher.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 7 from 5-7pm CST. Graveside services will be held on Friday, April 8 at 11am CST at Cherokee Memory Gardens with Dr. Scott Bowerman and Rev. Harold Ingram officiating.
A heart of gold and laughter and a smile that would light up any room! That was our grandmother!
