Rome Police and the Rome City Commission honored Pfc. Scott Kasmar as its 2021 Police Officer of the Year this week.
Kasmar has been honored several times since coming to Rome in 2016. In 2018, he received the “Lifesaving Award”, in 2019 he was awarded “Officer of the Month” four times before being named the Officer of the Year.
In February 2021, Kasmar was called to a home and found a man who had no food and needed medical help. Reports added that the man had not eaten for days. Rome Police Chief Denise Downer-McKinney said that Kasmar went above and beyond in helping the person. Kasmar bought groceries for the man and then set him up with the Meals on Wheels program.
Prior to coming to Rome, Kasmar served in the US Army from 2004-2014.
