Mrs. Sara Ellen Dykes, age 76, of Rome, GA, passed away on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at her residence surrounded by her family.
Ellen was born in Cuthbert, Georgia on June 9, 1945, the daughter of the late Leonard George Shellhouse and the late Alice Marie Bartlett Shellhouse. She worked at M&M Mars in Albany and then at World Carpets in Rome until she was unable to work. She was a member of Trinity United Christian Church and loved her Lord and Savior. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne E. Dykes, by her daughter, Kimberly Young, and by her siblings, Benny Shellhouse, Bobby Joe Shellhouse, Wayne Shellhouse, Elizabeth Shellhouse Jones and Faye Shellhouse Spires.
She is survived by her children, Kenneth C. Young (Carolyn), Michael Dykes (Haley), James Dykes and Katherine Dykes; by her grandchildren, Kyle Young, C. Harley Dykes, Ethan L. Dykes, Chase C. Bell, M. Chance Dykes, Piper L. Dykes and Brylee Ellie-Mae Dykes; by her sister, Alice Shellhouse Palmer; several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date at Ellen’s house. The family wants everyone to know how much their friendship meant to Ellen and how much she loved being a great mother, not only to her children, but to everyone who knew her. “Gone But Not Forgotten! We love you and we miss you! Fly in Heaven with God. No more pain. You’re free now! We will meet again soon.” Love your family.
