The Booth Western Art Museum was again ranked #1 in the Best Art Museum category of the USA Today 10Best Readers’ Choice awards, according to the editors of the program. This marks the third consecutive year that The Booth was honored to be the winner not just of a niche category, but the winner in terms of all North American art museums.
According to The Booth Museum’s Executive Director Seth Hopkins, “I am once again overwhelmed by the passion, loyalty and enthusiasm shown by the staff, volunteers, members, donors, artists and everyone associated with the Booth in helping us win this award for the third straight year. To paraphrase the writer Ian Fleming, ‘Once might be luck, twice might be coincidence, but three times is confirmation,’ that we do have the most passionate and engaged fan base in the county. We give thanks to all of them for making this happen.”
According to the editors of USA Today 10Best, “North America is home to some of the world’s most impressive art museums showcasing some of the most famous and comprehensive collections.” The Booth ranked first among such prestigious museums as the American Visionary Art Museum – Baltimore, MD, Kimbell Art Museum – Fort Worth, TX, Heard Museum – Phoenix, AZ, Detroit Institute of Arts – Detroit, MI, IAIA (MoCNA) – Santa Fe, NM, Cleveland Museum of Art – Cleveland, OH, George Eastman Museum – Rochester, NY and the Museum of International Folk Art – Santa Fe, NM.
Located about 30 minutes north of the Atlanta, Georgia perimeter, The Booth houses the largest permanent exhibition space for Western American art in the country. Booth Western Art Museum is operated under the umbrella of Georgia Museums, Inc., which also includes the Smithsonian-affiliated Tellus Science Museum, Bartow History Museum and the newly-opened Savoy Automobile Museum.
At The Booth, visitors are invited to “See America’s Story” through significant historic and contemporary Western artwork, from bronze to canvas, and in every style from painterly to pop art. Around every corner, outsized art and delicate miniatures provide “stop you in your tracks” moments depicting the iconic cultures, indigenous peoples, dramatic landscapes and more. Even the soaring sculpture atrium, at once showcasing the pieces indoors and on the grounds, re-creates the big-sky feel of the Western plains.
Recognized as one of the great art museums in America, the Booth Western Art Museum has been on the leading edge of innovative exhibits and creative collaborations, resulting in superlatives by art critics and colleagues. In addition to this latest 10Best win, its accolades include: Escape to the Southeast “Travel Attraction of the Year” by the Southeast Tourism Society; “Best Western Museum” in America by True West Magazine; among “The South’s Best Museums” by Southern Living; top 10 ranking in “30 Must-See Art Museums in The U.S.” by thecareerartproject.com and one of “5 U.S. Art Museums to Add to Your Bucket List” by thedailyquirk.com.
