The City of Rome Manager’s Office is pleased to announce that Doug Walker will join the city communications team beginning Wednesday, August 25, 2021. He will serve to help expand and enhance public relations and public information efforts for the city across all forms of media including web sites, social media, television and radio. 

“I am extremely excited to welcome Doug Walker to the City of Rome team to help us better connect and communicate with our residents and visitors,” said Sammy Rich, Rome City Manager.” Doug is one of those guys that you want on your team as he has such a great depth of knowledge and genuine love for our community!”

Doug currently serves as the Associate Editor for the Rome News Tribune where he has written award winning coverage for the past 12 years. His writing has received multiple top honors from the Georgia Press Association, Associated Press – Georgia and United Press International. Honors include Best Business Coverage, Best Business Writing, and Best Deadline Reporting, to name a few. 

“It’s been a pleasure to work with Doug at the Rome News-Tribune for over a decade and we’re looking forward to continuing a relationship with him as a point of contact with the city,” said John Bailey, RN-T Executive Editor. “He knows the kind of information we’re looking for and may be able to help us find some behind the scenes type of stories our readers will be interested in.”

Prior to Doug’s current role, he had a career in radio. Locally, he is known for his radio news direction at WRGA, WQTU, WTSH, WGJK and WSRM. He also served at stations in Montgomery AL, Columbus GA, and Waycross GA. Doug began his career at the US Civil Service Commission in Washington DC.
Doug has served in many leadership roles including President of the Georgia Association of Newscasters, Board of Directors of Chieftains Museum and the Rome-Floyd Commission on Children and Youth Board.

He has a B.A. in communications with a double minor in journalism from Auburn University. His hobbies include photography and travel.
