Mr. Horace Rickey Deaton, age 62, of Rome, passed away on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, at a local hospital.
Mr. Deaton was born in Rome, Georgia on June 5, 1958, son of the late Horace Johnson “Buck” Deaton and the late Bertha Mae “Bert” Leonard Deaton. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Linda Cribb, by his in-laws, Wanda & M.C. Evans and Jim Culpepper, and by 2 brothers-in-law. Mr. Deaton was a 1976 graduate of Pepperell High School. Prior to his retirement in June 2020, he worked for 41 years at Bekaert. Mr. Deaton was a member of Northside Church and was a former mason. He loved fishing and making people laugh, but his greatest joy in life came from caring for his family, especially his granddaughter.
Survivors include his wife, Tina Culpepper Deaton, to whom he was married on March 28, 1987; a daughter, Chelsea Deaton, Rome; a son, Aaron Deaton, Rome; a granddaughter, Hadlei Deaton; three sisters, Doris Smithberger (Tommy), Lindale, Sandy Bratcher (Danny), Lindale, and Missy Deems (Tim), Aragon; several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 27, 2021, at 3pm in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel. The Rev. Danny Wade will officiate.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Saturday from 2pm until the service time. Social distancing measures will be followed, and masks are requested.
