Rome City Commissioners honored Joe Cardona as the 2020 Rome Police Department’s Officer of the year this week.

Cardona was recognized for his role in helping save the life of a 9 month-old baby back on March 29, 2020.  Cardona was off duty at his home when a neighbor came banging on his door because their child was not breathing.

Cardona was able to go next door and administer CPR, which helped the child to breath again.

He currently works as the school resource officer at Rome High School.

Since joining the Rome Police Department, Pfc. Cardona has received the Lifesaving Award twice and has been named Officer of the Month twice.
