Ashworth Middle School was named FCAA Middle School football champions on Thursday after a forfeit by the Chattooga Indians.
The move comes after Chattooga chose to quarantine the entire team following a positive COVID-19 case.
Chattooga had asked to reschedule, but the league, which follows under GHSA rules state that any playoff game would be considered a forfeit if a team cannot play due to COVID-19.
Part of the rules stem from basketball and wrestling seasons beginning. Chattooga had hoped to move the game to October 20th. However, that date could have been pushed back to November if yet another case of COVID-19 struck either team.
