Ashworth Middle Claims First Middle School Football Championship

Ashworth Middle School was named FCAA Middle School football champions on Thursday after a forfeit by the Chattooga Indians.

The move comes after Chattooga chose to quarantine the entire team following a positive COVID-19 case.

Chattooga had asked to reschedule, but the league, which follows under GHSA rules state that any playoff game would be considered a forfeit if a team cannot play due to COVID-19.

Part of the rules stem from basketball and wrestling seasons beginning.  Chattooga had hoped to move the game to October 20^th.  However, that date could have been pushed back to November if yet another case of COVID-19 struck either team.
