Kayla Laray Wright, 51 of Centre, was jailed after she allegedly attempted to run over a Floyd County police officer during a traffic stop near Cave Spring Elementary School.

Reports said that after pulling Wright over she gave officers a fake name.  When discovering her identity the officer asked Wright to get out of the car. It was then she allegedly placed the car in reverse then attempted to strike two officers before trying to flee the scene.

Several customers at the Dollar General, in which the stop occurred, had to run from the scene in order to avoid being struck.

It was then Wright jumped out of the vehicle and fled toward Cave Spring Elementary School while children were playing outside.

She was later found hiding in the bushes, with a shirt that she had stolen from a nearby close line.

Wright is charged with fugitive from justice, attempting to elude police, theft by taking, criminal damage to property, hit and run, driving on a suspended license, giving false information to police, reckless conduct, interference with government property, felony obstruction, aggravated assault on a police officer, driving without insurance, no seat belt, reckless driving and disruption of a public school.


Cave Spring Elementary School was  placed on a lockdown after an officer involved shooting near the school Friday . 

Reports stated that the suspect, Kayla Wright, was on the run with active warrants, and when officers attempted to conduct a stop she attempted to run them over.

The incident occurred near the Dollar General near the school.

Sources indicate that no one was injured.
