Mr. Dallas Tillman Long, Jr., 70, of Cartersville passed away following a long illness Sunday, February 24, 2019. Mr. Long was born to the late Dallas Tillman Long and Annie Cowart Long.
Dallas was one of 14 children, growing up on a farm in rural Bartow County. He was a graduate of Cass High School and a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the US Army from 1968 until 1971, serving two tours of duty in Vietnam. He spent much of his working career in retail and grocery. Throughout his life he was an avid sports fan and enjoyed cheering on his favorite sports teams. He enjoyed listening to the music of Jimmy Buffett, laughingly referring to himself as a diehard “Parrothead.”
He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Jean Long Morgan and Nancy Long, and brother, Robert Long.
He is survived by his remaining siblings including four sisters; Lois Long of Cartersville, Joyce (Harley) Glass of Acworth, Evelyn (Clifton) Walker of Cartersville, and Martha (Terry) Lowery of Kennesaw and he is also survived by one brother, Griffin (Charlene) Long of Cartersville. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family wishes to thank those who cared for him during the last months of his life at Southland Healthcare and Rehab Center and Integrity Hospice.
A graveside service will be conducted at Georgia National Cemetery on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at ten o’clock in the morning with military honors rendered.
