Investigators with the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Department believe that a December 19th fire that destroyed a residence on Holland-Chattoogaville Road was arson.

The fire was at a vacant residence that belongs to Robert Armstrong.  WZQZ News reported last month that when a deputy arrived on the scene of the fire at 2149 Holland-Chattoogaville Road, the house was fully engulfed in flames.  At the time, Mr. Armstrong told the responding deputy that he believed he knew who had burned his house down.

The state fire marshal is still looking into the cause of the fire, but investigators with the sheriff’s department believe that it was indeed arson because there was no power service hooked up to the residence.

At the time of the fire, Mr. Armstrong had told the sheriff’s department that he had been experiencing problems with people squatting inside the vacant house.
