Floyd County Coroner Gene Proctor has confirmed that the body found off Lindsey Driver near Armuchee as that of 35 year-old Matthew Thompson.
Reports said that the body was found near a sewer line close to 50 feet in the woods. Proctor added that a city water and sanitation worker who was checking the lines spotted the body and notified authorities.
He added that it appeared that the body had been in the area for close to a week.
Proctor went on to say that Thompson was described as transient and was last seen by his mother on December 10th.
Police stated that the body had began to decompose.
The body has been taken to the GBI Crime Lab for autopsy.
