According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, Sheriff’s Office investigators attempted to stop a vehicle in the Spring Garden area for suspected impaired driving. The suspect, James K. Clark, 40 of Rome, refused to pull over and led deputies in a pursuit on and along Highway 278.
The pursuit ended when Clark lost control of his vehicle and wrecked near the county line.
Investigators seized over 2 ounces of methamphetamine, marijuana, several unlawful pills, and an AK-style rifle. The driver was taken into custody and charged with drug trafficking, unlawful possession of marijuana, three counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, attempting to elude, a firearms possession charge, multiple traffic related offenses, and an outstanding warrant for failure to appear on a previous firearms charge.
