John Meadows, representative and chairman of the rules committee for the Georgia House, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 74.

Meadows died as a result of cancer.

He was the District 5 State Representative, which serves Calhoun and Gordon County.  He also previously served as the mayor of Calhoun.

He was reelected to his seat last week.

He was first elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in November 2004. In addition to chairing the Rules Committee, he also served on the Governmental Affairs, Industry and Labor, Insurance, Retirement, and Game, Fish, & Parks Committees.
