One individual has been charged with trafficking in salvia in Etowah County, according to Commander Randall Johnson.

Edward Elijah Brown, 36, of Gadsden, is charged with Trafficking Salvia and Possession of Firearm by a Violent Felon.

On July 3, 2018, the Etowah County Joint Special Operations Group, Etowah County Drug Enforcement Unit, the Northeast Alabama Safe Streets Task Force, and the Decatur Police Dept. executed a search warrant at a residence located on S. 14th St. An investigation stemming from an armed bank robbery in Decatur, AL on June 25, 2018 led law enforcement to this residence.

During the search, agents recovered approximately 1100 grams of salvia, and an AK-47. There were 2 juveniles at the residence during the search of the residence.

BROWN is being held in the Etowah County Detention Center on a $100,000 cash bond, and is waiting to be extradited to Morgan County to face charges related to the bank robbery.

This investigation is still ongoing and the subjects could face additional state and federal charges related to the firearm and drugs seized.

The Etowah County Drug Enforcement Unit, Etowah County Joint Special Operations Group, Gadsden Police Department, Decatur Police Dept. Alabama National Guard Counterdrug Program, and FBI Safe Streets Task Force participated in the case.
