The Bartow County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two people in connection
with falsely reporting a crime from November 2017.

According to Sheriff Clark Millsap, on November 26, 2017 at 7:45PM,
deputies from the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office were requested to
respond to the Cartersville Medical Center for a reported stabbing.
Deputies met with the victim,  36 year old Ervine Garvey and his
girlfriend, 42 year old Myrna Mason, both of Cartersville. Ervine had
told hospital staff that he had been assaulted during a robbery attempt
at the car wash on Evergreen Trail in Cartersville while he was there to
wash his car. Mason gave details as well that the two were at the car
wash when a male approached Ervine and stabbed him before running away.

Investigators with the sheriff’s office obtained video surveillance from
the area and no such event was captured, nor was the victim seen in the
area during the alleged time of the event. When confronted with this
information, Garvey and Mason then changed their story with Garvey
stating it happened behind his home and Mason saying that she did not
witness the assault as she was inside the home. While investigators are
unclear what led to the assault, they are clear that there was no armed
robbery attempt as originally reported at the car wash (97 Evergreen
Trail, Cartersville).

Garvey and Mason were booked into the Bartow County Jail last week and
charged with making false statements. Mason was released on bond, Garvey
remains in jail on an additional probation violation charge.
