Duwane Lamar McKnight, 40 of Rome, was arrested this week after police said he found a lost wallet and failed to attempt to return it to its owner, while in the processes taking cash from it.
Reports stated that McKnight found the wallet, which contained a state ID that had been dropped on Dean Avenue. Reports continued to say that he then removed cash from the wallet and then proceeded to throw the wallet away without making an effort to return the property.
Police added that McKnight said admitted to the crime and told them that since the ID had expired he believed he did not have to return the items.
McKnight is charged with theft of mislaid property.
