Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader said that the death of a Butler Dairy Road man on Monday night of this week was murder.

Schrader said, “The investigation has revealed that the victim, Eddie Lanham, appears to have died as a result of gunshot wounds that were not self inflicted. The case is being investigated as a homicide. Many individuals have been and continue to be interviewed. Initial investigation suggests that the victim was the intended target of this terrible crime. Investigators continue to urge anyone with information concerning this incident to contact them at 706.857.3411. Your information can be treated as confidential. Further details will be released when the release of such information does not compromise the investigation.”

There is a continuing investigation happening in Chattanooga County concerning the death of a local man. Law enforcement is now seeking help from the public.

Sheriff Mark Schrader spoke with local media about a suspicious death. Reports show that law enforcement was notified by Renee Lanham that when she had arrived home to find her husband, Edward Earl Lanham, dead.

Investigators responded to the call and continued the investigation throughout the night. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was also present to assist local law enforcement.

Sheriff Schrader is vying for the public’s help saying that “if anyone was in the Butler Dairy Road area on Monday night and saw or heard anything suspicious, they should call the sheriff’s office at 706-857-3411 and ask to speak to an investigator.”

Schrader says no new details will be released at this time, but the investigation continues.
