The Bartow County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 25 year old
Cartersville woman with numerous charges after a shoplifting incident today.

According to Sheriff Clark Millsap, two deputies responded to the Ingles
Supermarket on Joe Frank Harris Parkway in Cartersville at about 1:23PM
to a reported shoplifting in progress. When they arrived, the suspected
shoplifter (female)  was getting into the driver’s seat of a Honda
Accord in the parking lot. Ignoring the deputies trying to speak to her,
the female continued to get into the car and backed up quickly striking
one deputy in the leg and missing the other. She then drove forward,
striking two cars to escape – one of which had a toddler inside with a
woman loading groceries in the trunk. As deputies pursued the Honda, the
female turned the wrong way onto Felton Road almost hitting an assisting
deputy head on, then striking another vehicle and continuing to the
Crown Inn on Tennessee Street. Witnesses provided law enforcement with
the room she ran to after leaving the car. Deputies arrested Olivia Ann
Hayes, 25, of Cartersville with assistance from the Cartersville Police
Department and the Georgia State Patrol.

Hayes is currently being held in the Bartow County Jail on three counts
of Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, two counts of
Aggravated Assault, Hit and Run, Fleeing and Attempting to Elude
Officers, Probation Violation, Shoplifting, Driving while Unlicensed,
and Making an Illegal Left Turn. In addition to these charges, Hayes
will possibly face charges from the other agencies involved. The deputy
that was struck in the leg is okay with only a complaint of injury. No
other injuries were reported despite the reckless actions of Hayes.
