A Gadsden man has been arrested in connection to sexual misconduct, according to Sheriff Todd Entrekin.

“Anthony Ryan Bowen, 40, of Gadsden, was arrested and charged with one count of custodial sexual misconduct, which is a Class C felony,” Sheriff Entrekin said.

Bowen allegedly engaged in sexual conduct with a female victim while she was in custody in the back seat of a patrol car.  (Code of Alabama, Section 14-11-31)

He was employed as a deputy of the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office and was immediately terminated.

“A priority of this Sheriff’s Office is to always protect and serve.  That is the oath we take.  This sheds a black eye on the Office and law enforcement,” Sheriff Entrekin said.  “As soon as we were notified of the crime we took quick action to relieve him of his duties.”

Bowen is being detained in the Etowah County Detention Center on $100,000 cash bond.

“I want to personally apologize to the victim that an employee acted in this manner,” Sheriff Entrekin added.  “At this time, we are investigating this case as an isolated incident.  However, if anyone feels like they have additional information please contact the Sheriff’s Office at 256-546-2825.”
