The Cherokee County Coroner’s Office has positively identified a body recovered from Weiss Lake on Wednesday afternoon as that of Bobby Shore.

Shore was in an SUV that crashed into the Coosa River last December. The wreck killed four others at Leesburg Landing on December 13th. Rescues crews found the vehicle submerged in 18 feet of water around 11 p.m. that night.

The body of Shire was found by a fisherman around 2 p.m. Tuesday. He said that that he had discovered a body floating in the lake near Aubrey’s Island and the Alabama Power plant.

Deaton, 41, was identified by his tattoos.

Rescue Personnel from a number of agencies have been combing the waters near the powerhouse for some 86 days, on Wednesday Cherokee County 9-1-1 received a call from a fisherman stating that he had found a body floating in the water near Aubrey’s Island. Members of the Cherokee County Rescue Squad, Cherokee EMS, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office deputies and investigators, Cherokee County Coroner Dr. Jeremy Deaton, Leesburg Police and Alabama Marine Police responded to the scene.

The bodies of Robert Hardin, Dale Steven Keener, Christy Hobson and Cheryl Hobson, were recovered at the time of the accident however the body of Bobby Shore was never found.

Two women, Kim Learned and Brittany Hobson, made it to shore and were taken to a Gadsden-area hospital for treatment, and later recovered.
