Gordon County deputy sheriffs were dispatched to a private residence on Hyde Road near Resaca in response to a report of a self-inflicted gunshot victim this week.

Upon arrival, deputies found a 40 year old man who had suffered what appeared to be a self inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was subsequently transported to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga where he remains. Detectives have recovered the weapon believed to have been used in the shooting, and do not believe that foul play was involved.

They do however, believe that alcohol played a role in this incident.
