Police have released more information in the wreck and death of 62 year-old Robert Burton, of Kingston, last week.

Reports stated that on January 1, 2017, at approximately 10:37 p.m., a white Ford pickup was traveling southeast on GA 293, west of Law Road, in Bartow County. The truck left the road when it went around a left curve, and as a result struck multiple trees and a fence.

Authorities added that it was then the pickup overturned onto its top. The driver, Robert Burton, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the truck was identified as Benjamin Burton, 25, also of Kingston.

Police said that the younger Burton was the son of the driver.  He was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.

It was reported that both Burton’s were wearing seatbelts at the time of the wreck. Officers also reported that both side airbags had deployed.

Nine people were killed in vehicle accidents during the New Year’s holiday counting period in Georgia.

There were 11 traffic deaths reported during the Christmas holiday travel period.
