The Rome City Commission approved a temporary outdoor burn ban on Monday, following suit of Floyd and other nearby counties.

The ban includes all types of burning including campfires, bonfires, leaf and other.

The ban continue until drought conditions improve.

Those caught burning could face a fine or jail time.

Rome City and Floyd County have also begun talks to create an ordinance that would give the fire chief the power to issue emergency burn bans in the future instead of having to wait on local municipalities to do so.
