According to Gordon County Fire and Rescue Chief Doug Ralston, a fire in the Ryo Mountain area of Fairmount has been contained.

The fire began on Wednesday, Nov. 16 to what firefighters thought was a four square foot area around Irwin Mill Road in Fairmount.  However, the blaze quickly spread and burned approximately 100 acres.

The fire was finally contained early Thursday morning.

Ralston added that there were no evacuations and no structures were damaged due to the fire.

As a result, Gordon County School administrators are working closely with emergency services personnel to monitor outdoor air quality surrounding their individual schools, due to the wide spread locations of our facilities. As warranted, all outdoor activities will be cancelled and changes will be communicated from each school as necessary.
