Floyd County officials followed suit with several nearby municipalities and issued a county-wide burn ban on Tuesday.

Floyd County Manager Jamie McCord said that the county has been in an extreme drought for several months, but recently they have moved to the exceptional drought level.

McCord said that the outdoor ban covers not only leaf burning, but bond fires as well.

He added that the county is working on an ordinance that will help with future burn ban situations that includes giving the fire chief the ability to request a ban being implemented without a vote.

The new ordinance requires a first and second reading before it can be passed.
