For the third time this season the Hawks were shutout, this time as No. 10 North Alabama tallied a 45-0 victory over the visiting Shorter on homecoming Saturday.
With the loss, the Hawks slip to 0-7 on the season and 0-4 in the Gulf South Conference; while the Lions improved to 4-1 overall and 4-0 in conference play.
On the evening, North Alabama rolled up 484 yards of total offense; while keeping the Hawks to 159 otal tyards.
The Lions got things started on their opening drive, settling for a field goal on fourth and two from the SU 30. And answered two plays later when they forced a Shorter fumble and made it a 10-0 game on a 15-yard reception from Julius Jones. From there the Lions didn’t let up, adding to their lead for the 45-0 final score.
Tyler Pullum was 15-30 on the night for Shorter with 124 yards passing. Devante James also saw time under center, adding six yards on two completions.
Maurice Sutton led the effort on the receiving end with 34 yards on five receptions; while Austin Miller added 28 yards on three catches and both, Joseph Ross and Ulysses Carswell, finished with 26 yards.
On the ground, Dante Borders finished the night with 30 yards on nine carries, and Carswell added 23 yards on five carries.
Defensively, Willy Dorcin led the Hawks; turning in 10 tackles on the night – five solo and five assisted. John Jarrard added eight for Shorter. While Rodney Jackson, Tristan Bridges, Jeremiah Brown, and Kareem Taylor finished with six each.
Shorter will be back in action next Saturday, October 22, as they look to spoil West Florida’s first football homecoming and get into the win column for the first time this season. Game time is set for 1:00pm EST from Pensacola, Fla.
