Traffic related accidents are up this year over last. According to reports from the Rome Police Department though the month of September this year 1,743 accidents have been reported, up from 1,670 during the same time period in 2015.
The good news is that the number of DUI arrest has decreased from 245 last year to 191 this year.
The City of Rome has also collected less revenue though citations. Thus far in 2016 the city has collected $1,227,410.61 compared to $1,292,371.92 a decrease of $64, 961.31.
The department also released its primary causes of accidents this year. Following too close was at the top of the list with 73 wrecks, followed by failure to yield at 34, improper lane change at 20, stop sign violations at 10 and DUI at 3. The report listed “other causes” at 61 accidents.
The report also listed that the most common time for a wreck was between the hours of 4 pm and 7 pm.
During the month of September, the most common places for accidents to occur were at Turner McCall Boulevard at Broad Street and Martha Berry Highway at North 2nd Avenue.
