Polk County Commissioners approved to help purchase new equipment for Rockmart Firefighters.

Reports said that the commissioners approved to pick up half of the $56,000 that it will cost to buy new gear that will be used in chemical spills or clearing out meth labs, as well as a new air compressor to fill up the tanks used by hazmat teams.

They will also purchase new lift bags for vehicles. Reports stated that the current bags have a 10 year life span, but the newer bags are estimated to last close to two decades.

The $28,000 approved by the county commission will be funded out of the 2014 Special Purpose, Local Option Sales Tax fund.

Rockmart is also required to put up $28,000 for the purchases.
