Bartow County authorities said that three people, including an infant, were killed overnight in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 411 just west of Cowan Road.
Reports stated that BCEMS had two units respond and a third was sent due to 5 patients being in the accident. A 8-year-old was extricated from the vehicle and air lifted to Egleston hospital for treatment. An adult female and two juveniles, ages 11 months and 2 according to emergency personnel at the scene, were pronounced dead on the scene.
The fifth patient, an adult male, was transported to Cartersville Medical Center for chest pains. Impaired driving may have been a factor in the crash.
Georgia State Patrol troopers stated that a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck, being driven by 51 year-old Scottie Worfford, of Rockmart, and a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee , driven by Deneisha Washington, 25 of Dalton, were traveling east in the left lane of Highway 411. Worfford stated the Jeep was slowing down and he was not able to stop the truck. The pickup struck the rear of the Jeep with its front. Both vehicles exited the north shoulder of the highway and came to an uncontrolled rest in the median facing north.
Eleven month old Octavian Bynum and 2 year-old Lyania Bynum were killed in the accident. Shamya Washington, 8 years-old was airlifted.
Worfford is charged with three counts of Homicide by Vehicle (1st Degree), Serious Injury by Vehicle, Driving Under the Influence, and Following Too Closely.
