Officials with the Georgia Forestry Commission said that close to 150 acres of land was burned just north of Cave Spring between Buttermilk and Jefferson Roads Thursday. They added that most of the flames were extinguished by Friday morning.
They added that the fire started just before 3 pm on Thursday and that they are still looking to determine the exact cause of the blaze.
Over a half dozen tractor plows were called to the scene to help contain the fire, which came within a half of a mile from a home.
The fire occurred in an area known as the Coosa Valley Prairie where over 50 different species of animals call home.
