Rome City Commissioners approved a proposal to lease land at Bridge Point Plaza. Jeremy Duke, with Mellow Mushroom, is seeking to place a Moe’s Original BBQ restaurant in the building adjacent to the property on West First Street. The building is currently owned by Freighthouse Millennium LLC.
The company will lease a 27 by 135 foot strip of the city’s park area and is expected to d build an outdoor dining deck with a handicap ramp and sidewalk.
A few concerned citizens expressed displeasure with the lease, stating that the business will take a third of the property and will cause issues with capacity for the First Friday concert series. They also stated that numerous trees will have to be removed in order to build the deck.
Two commissioners, Wendy Davis and Bill Irmshuer voted no on the lease.
The city will get $2,000 a year for the lease, and would run for the next five years with an automatic five year renewal.
The city also leased a portion of the Main High on Washington Drive to Kelsey-Aycock-Burrell Center Inc the group current .has offices on the campus. The lease will be for 15 years at $1 per year.
