Desmond Bernard Whatley, 31 of Rome, was arrested over the weekend after leading police on a chase down Broad Street. Reports said that Whatley was spotted driving the wrong way on Tribune Street near the Town Green when the officer attempted the stop.
Reports stated that Whatley turned into the Town Green parking lot and slowed down to a point where the officer got out of the patrol car. However, Whatley turned onto Third Avenue before turning back on Broad Street.
The officer then chased Whatley to the South Broad Street Bridge where he finally pulled over onto Branham Avenue.
Reports added that Whatley refused to answer questions or give a sobriety test.
He was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, attempting to elude a police officer and driving on the wrong side of a road.
