After two weeks of voting on social media, five local charities have been selected to receive $500 each and compete for another $1,000 donation in the Harbin Hero Challenge.
The five charities which received the most nominations via Facebook, Twitter and Instagram are:
- Summit Quest
- Hospitality House for Women
- Rome YMCA
- Harbor House
- DIGS, Inc.
The five charities now get to compete for an extra $1,000 while having fun and being healthy.
Registration for the Harbin Hero Hustle 5K and Two Mile Health Walk opens on Monday, Aug. 21 at rfpra.com. People signing up to participate in the event can select one of the five charities to support.
The race is set for Saturday, Oct. 15 at 10 a.m. in Downtown Rome.
During online registration, registrants can select one of the five charities to support, giving that charity two points.
On race day, people registering for the event can also select one of the five charities to help, earning that charity one point.
The charities have one final chance to gain points on race day. There will be a pre-race costume contest with categories including:
- Best hero
- Best villain
- Best junior hero (age 10 and under)
- Best league of heroes (ensemble of five or more heroes)
- Best dynamic duo
Contest winners earn an additional 10 points for one of the five charities.
After the race, we will crown the charity, which received the most points from registrations and the costume contest, as the Harbin Hero Challenge winner. That charity earns an additional $1,000 donation.
Packet pick-up is set for Friday, Oct. 14 at Harbin Clinic Vitality Center.
