With only 84 votes separating the yes and no’s, the Romans who envisioned one of the world’s largest tennis center got to see the opening of their dream on Friday.

The Rome Tennis Center  features fifty-one USTA standard courts including six NCAA regulation courts, three center courts for tournament and collegiate play and one exhibition court that can accommodate seating for 2,000 people.

All courts are lighted with shade cabanas for players. Twelve courts are striped to accommodate 10&Under tennis courts. The design also allows for future development of six NCAA regulation indoor tennis courts.

“We are a big tennis community about to become even bigger,” said Sammy Rich, Rome City Manager. “The Rome Tennis Center of Georgia is about increasing economic impact. The facility will allow us to not only keep our existing events, but make us more marketable and able to go after additional, larger tournaments as well.”
