Redmond Regional Medical Center announces the three winners of the hospital’s 2015 Frist Humanitarian Awards: Dr. Daniel Robitshek, Internal Medicine Residency Program – Physician Recipient; Andrew Ballantine, Director of Food and Nutrition Services – Employee Recipient; and Eunice Evans – Volunteer Recipient. Redmond also recognizes Angie Terry, RN as the 2015 recipient of the Excellence in Nursing Award.

The Frist Humanitarian Awards are given annually in recognition of the humanitarian spirit and philanthropic work of the late Dr. Thomas Frist, Sr., a founder of Hospital Corporation of America (HCA).  Each year, one physician, one employee, and one volunteer from Redmond are recognized for their dedication to the welfare and happiness of patients and their community. Adding to these awards of distinction is the Excellence in Nursing Award which recognizes the intrinsic value of nursing practice in accomplishing the company mission of providing the highest quality of care to the patients and communities we serve. These awards are the highest honors given to an employee, nurse, volunteer, and physician at HCA.

Physician recipient Dr. Daniel Robitshek is known at Redmond as someone who goes the “extra mile” when it comes to his patients and his community. He offers humility, love, and kindness throughout the hospital every day. His warm attitude is noticed by patients, their families, and the hospital associates.  Dr. Robitshek is also extremely involved within the community. Inspired by his religious beliefs, Dr. Robitshek is passionate about ministry in Rome and abroad. He is known as someone whom people turn to for spiritual guidance. He participates in several leadership roles within his church and he supports numerous overseas missions. His love for missions is also seen in his love for the Rome community. Whether paying off medical bills of individuals or buying food and clothes for low income families, Dr. Robitshek consistently shows love and concern when he sees others in need. He also serves Redmond by leading the new Redmond Internal Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Robitshek shows his compassion as a health professional by teaching and mentoring young medical students and residents.

Employee recipient Andrew Ballantine goes beyond his role as Director of Food and Nutrition Services and serves as a role model Redmond leader. Being dedicated to Redmond’s values and the community, Andrew is someone people can depend upon.  Not only does Andrew work in many ways to deliver the best experience to patients and families, he also leads his team using understanding and compassion. His leadership traits also show in his work within the community. In his spare time, Andrew volunteers with the Boy Scouts of America, a local church soup kitchen, and a program in which he mentors at risk teens. Andrew also has a passion for those who have cancer, and this passion inspires much of his humanitarian work. Andrew is a regular volunteer at Summit Quest and works with Relay for Life to raise money for cancer research. He also teaches a cooking class that helps cancer patients learn how to cook nutritious meals. At Christmas Andrew donated gift cards to Redmond Christmas Families, and he offered his vacation cabin for use by cancer patients and their families. At Redmond and in the community, Andrew gives of his time and resources to be a leader who influences by example.

Volunteer recipient Eunice Evans has been a volunteer at Redmond for several years and primarily volunteers her time to help the Quality and Human Resources Departments at Redmond. She also helps serve at several events throughout the year. Eunice is known at Redmond and within the community for her dependability and happy spirit. She never hesitates to offer her time when she sees help is needed. She cares for those in the community by routinely visiting individuals who have been admitted to the hospital or other local nursing homes or rehab facilities. Eunice provides meals to those who cannot make food for themselves, and she even provides rides for those who have no way to leave their homes. Her intentional acts of kindness for her friends and neighbors inspire others to care deeply for those around them.

Redmond Oncology Charge Nurse, Angie Terry, received the Excellence in Nursing Award for her compassionate care. Angie is known as a tremendous caregiver to her patients and their families. According to her colleagues, she never sits down and is constantly trying to make her patients more comfortable. As a nationally certified OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse), Angie is a role model to other nurses within her department. She encourages everyone she works with through her caring and compassion. Through relationships made with patients, Angie makes a huge impact on their lives. When one of her patients passed away, Angie helped the patient’s nine-year-old granddaughter cope with the loss. Remembering the girl’s love for American Girl Dolls, Angie purchased the gift with her own money and delivered it to the grieving child. Compassionate acts like this make Angie one of Redmond’s finest caregivers.

“We are extremely proud to recognize Dr. Daniel Robitshek, Andrew Ballantine, Angie Terry, and Eunice Evans for their efforts on behalf of our patients and our community,” said John Quinlivan, Chief Executive Officer at Redmond Regional medical Center.  “They truly exemplify the humanitarian spirit for which the late Dr. Thomas Frist, Sr. was so well known and is so fondly remembered.  I know he’d be proud of them as we are.”
