Floyd County Police have sought the help of a Bode Cellmark Forensics, a forensic crime lab in Virginia to help solve a six year-old murder case.

Reports said that Floyd County authorities are seeking assistance in the shooting murder of Leopoldo Cardenas, who was 47 at the time back on January 9, 2010.   Police said that Cardenas and his family was taken hostage and forced into an empty building in West Rome before he was shot numerous times.

Police were able to collect DNA from the scene and now they are hoping that with thehelp of the forensic crime lab they can match DNA to a suspect in the case.

Officials said that the FBI agreed to cover up to $3,000 of the lab work expense .

Police said that they believe Cardenas was cooperating with the suspect because one of the other suspects was still holding his family hostage at home.

Local authorities are hoping to have the results back this summer.

Anyone with information that could help the investigation is asked to call the Floyd County police at 706-235-7766 or the anonymous Crime Line, 706-236-5000.
