Floyd County police officer Jesse Crider was recognized as the  Respect for Law Officers of the Year. The 2016 award for Floyd County Police Department was presented by a joint meeting of Noon Optimist, Seven Hills Rotary, Kiwanis and Lions Clubs.

Crider was presented the award for his work in thwarting an armed robbery and identifying a man who had previously stolen from several convenience stores in the area in January 2016.
The young officer immediately recognized the man from previous look-outs and was able to subdue him without danger to himself, the suspect or the public. The man was found to be in possession of at least five loaded firearms that were stowed in the vehicle.
