An inmate was found deceased in the Cherokee County Detention Center on Sunday Aaron Rochester, 50, of Cedar Bluff was pronounced dead by Cherokee County Coroner Dr. Jeremy Deaton.  Rochester was arrested on May 15 and charged with arson and later capital murder in connection with the homicide of Donna Marable.

Evidence indicates the inmate died in an apparent suicide, however the body will be transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for autopsy.  Cherokee County Sheriff Shaver stated the State Bureau of Investigation was called in to lead the investigation, and the case will also be reviewed by the District Attorney’s Office.

Charges for the man being held in connection to an Arson and Assault Case on County Road 131 in Cedar Bluff over the weekend are now expected to be upgraded to Capital Murder.

According to Cherokee County Coroner Jeremy Deaton, the victim now identified as 50 year old Donna Marable of Cedar Bluff died earlier this afternoon as a result of injuries sustained in that fire.

According to Chief Investigator Josh Summerford who heads up the Cherokee County Major Crimes Unit charges are expected to be upgraded Thursday morning and more detailed information will be released at that time.

50 year old Aaron Lee Rochester is currently in the Cherokee County Detention Center on charges of Attempted Murder and Arson 1st Degree and is being held on a $750,000 bond.

This case remains under investigation by the Major Crimes Unit, State Fire Marshal’s Office and the Cherokee County Coroner’s Office.
