Police have charged Juan Martinez, of Gadsden, with numerous charges including DUI following a wreck last Friday that resulted in the car he was driving getting struck head on by a tractor trailer.

According to reports, a nurse who was aiding Martinez on the scene reported a strong smell of alcohol from his breath. She also showed police three unopened cans of alcohol in the vehicle.

Martinez is charged with driving under the influence, driving with out a license, driving on the wrong side of the road and driving without insurance.

Floyd County emergency responders were dispatched to a two vehicle accident on Ga 20 close to three miles from the Alabama line Friday evening.   A tractor trailer truck carrying furniture, driven by Dorthy Calhoun of Texas, collided head on with a Mitsubishi Galant being driven by Juan Martinez of Gadsden, Alabama.

According to officials the accident  occurred when the Mitsubishi veered into the wrong side of the road striking the tractor trailer.

The truck came to rest blocking the highway after catching on fire.

Both Martinez and Calhoun were responsive and was taken to a local hospital.

They have since been released.
