George Pitcock, a senior at Armuchee High School and a student in the metals program at Floyd County Schools College and Career Academy, took home the gold medal in the sheet metal competition at the 2016 SkillsUSA Georgia State Leadership and Skills Conference.
The competition and conference brought together the best-of-the-best technical education program teens from across the state at the Georgia International Convention Center in Atlanta.
Pitcock’s gold medal first place finish also came with a travel scholarship, sheet metal tools and a tool bag.
Dr. Chesley Chambers is the instructor for the metals program at the Floyd County Schools College and Career Academy. Chambers said, “The contest won by George showcased his math, blueprint reading and skills working with metal to build a sheet metal project.”
Pitcock advances to the National SkillsUSA Championship to be held in Louisville, Kentucky in June.
