The Bartow County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Cartersville man on
charges stemming from domestic dispute which ended with an elderly man
being assaulted.
According to Sheriff Clark Millsap, Bartow County Sheriff’s Deputies
responded to a call of a domestic dispute this morning at about 8:49AM
at 33 Sweetbriar Circle, Cartersville. The caller reported that his
adult step-son, Jason Hansard, had been holding him and his wife
against their will with a knife and was possibly under the influence of
drugs. The caller reported that Jason had went outside and he locked the
doors to call 911. Deputies arrived and searched the area. Several
callers from nearby neighborhoods called 911 after seeing Jason walking
around. Shortly after 11:30AM, Jason committed a home invasion at 82
Bennett Kimbral Road (not far from original location) where he fought
with an elderly homeowner there. Deputies were able to take Jason into
custody at that location. The elderly man was treated by EMS and
released at the scene for injuries from the assault.
Jason Hansard, 36, of 33 Sweetbriar Circle was arrested and booked into
the Bartow County Jail under charges of Cruelty to Persons 65 and older,
Aggravated Assault, False Imprisonment, Home Invasion, Felon in
possession of a firearm, Possession of a weapon during the commission of
a crime, Terroristic threats, and kidnapping. He is currently being held
without bond, pending a bond hearing before a judge.
