Keep Rome-Floyd Beautiful invites the community to celebrate Earth Day this year with the Renew Our Rivers Cleanup at Brushy Branch. Volunteers are needed to help with clearing debris in and around the water.
The event is scheduled for Friday, April 22, 2016 at 8:00 a.m. Brushy Branch is located at Montgomery Landing off Blacks Bluff Road in Coosa.
“This event not only serves to help protect our water resources by keeping our rivers clean, but it is also an educational tool,” says Keep Rome-Floyd Beautiful Director, Mary Hardin Thornton. “Volunteers get the opportunity to directly impact their environment in a positive way and they share this experience with others.”
Each volunteer will receive a free T-shirt. Coffee and biscuits will be provided. All equipment needed for clean-up will also be provided.
The annual event is an outgrowth of a fishing tournament hosted by Georgia Power Plant Hammond employees who became concerned about debris in the rivers.
This year’s event is also a part of Georgia Cities Week in which the City of Rome recognizes and celebrates the valuable services cities provide; including the importance of keeping our town resources healthy and clean.
