A Southside woman has been arrested for having sex with a student, according to Sheriff Todd Entrekin.

“Andrea Elliott Means, 28, of Southside, was arrested and is charged with one count of a school employee engaging in a sex act or deviant sexual intercourse with a student under the age of 19 years old.  The charge is a felony,” investigator Brandi Fuller said.

Means allegedly had sex with a high school student, in March 2013, while employed with the Etowah County Board of Education (ECBOE) as a teacher.  The sexual act did not occur on school grounds.

Etowah County Superintendent Alan Cosby said, “Mrs. Means’ resignation was accepted by the Etowah County Board of Education during an emergency meeting last Friday.  We are fully cooperating with the Sheriff’s Office and District Attorney’s Office in this case.”

“This type of ridiculous behavior is completely uncalled for by someone who was trusted by the community to teach our kids,” Sheriff Entrekin said.  “Her job was to educate and encourage students to pursue their dreams and goals, not use them for personal pleasure.”

Means was booked into the Etowah County Detention Center and later released on $10,000 property bond.
