Rome police arrested two people following a high speed car chase of over 100 miles per hour. Reports said that Jorge Luis Nava, 20, allegedly puched a woman in the face at a home on Tamassee Lane then fled from the scene in a stolen car driven by Maria Jose Martinez-Mojica.

Reports added that when officers spotted the vehicle Mojica was driving at speeds of over 100 miles per hour near Floyd Medical Center.

Officers said that the suspects eventually were able to elude police after turning on South Division Street. However, officers were able to eventually locate the couple hiding in bushes near Rosewood Road.

The car had been reported stolen in Dalton.

Nava is charged with felony theft by receiving stolen property, misdemeanor battery and four counts of willful obstruction of law enforcement officers.

Martinez-Mojica is charged with felony theft by receiving stolen property, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, misdemeanor reckless driving, a stop sign violation and four counts of willful obstruction of law enforcement officers.

A hold has also been placed on Martinez-Mojica from Whitfield County.
