Interior designers and architects from across the country have voted a locally made product as the industry’s best for 2015.   The Lakir collection by Durkan captured the top designation sponsored by Interior Design magazine, receiving a Best of Year award in the Hospitality category. Lakir is manufactured in Dalton, Ga., at Mohawk Industries’ Virgil Drive facility. Mohawk’s commercial product design and product development teams who created this collection also work in Dalton.

“We’re focused on building a collection of products that are not only high-performing, but meet the aesthetic requirements of today’s demands,” Vice President of Design and Product Development Jackie Dettmar said. “Receiving recognition in Interior Design’s Best of Year Awards is validation of our commitment to developing the best in product design, and we’re extremely honored to be recognized by the architects and designers of our industry for the passion that goes into these products.”

Three additional collections from throughout the Mohawk Industries received Honoree designations: Moving Floors in the Carpet/Modular category; Modern Dobby for the Carpet/Broadloom category; and River MarbleTM ColorbodyTM Porcelain for the Tile and Stone category.

Interior Design magazine’s annual Best of Year Awards recognize the best in contract interiors for products and projects. This year marked Interior Design’s 10th Anniversary Best of Year Awards and was held at Frank Gehry’s IAC Building in New York City.

The Best of Year win marks the fifth design award received by the collection created by Durkan and manufactured locally. Inspired by the simplicity of lines, rendered in muted blues and frosted grays, and featuring a precision sculpted effect, Lakir’s patterns explore and emphasize the technical capabilities exclusive to Durkan’s Definity manufacturing technology, which replicates the durability and look of Axminster as it has never been done before.

Best of Year product design finalists were selected by interior designers and architects via an online vote, and finalists were posted prior to the awards event. Interior Design Editor-in-Chief Cindy Allen and a jury of design leaders selected all winners. Product and project winners were announced at the event in New York City. Winners will be featured in the December issue of Interior Design.
