The William S. Davies Homeless Shelter in Floyd County was recently given a contribution of $10,000 from the Georgia Power Foundation. The money will go toward the building of a new $500,000 shelter that will be located between East 18th and East 19th Streets in East Rome.
The new facility will provide 16 beds in two wings that will accommodate both men and women.
Officials said that they are currently looking for someone to claim naming rights to the shelter, which is available though a donation.
Currently, the shelter is running out of a rental house located at 228 South Broad Street. However, officials said that they have been asked to leave and are `hoping to begin construction as soon as possible`.
Plans are to begin bidding the project within the next month.
