Dr. Sarah Kathleen “Sally” Maddox, age 49, of Rome, passed away Saturday, December 1, 2018, at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.

Dr. Maddox was born in Rome, GA on January 30, 1969, daughter of the former Mary Ayers and Don Kinney. She was preceded in death by a niece, Keanua “Sissy” Chambers, and by her step-father, Jim Felkel.

Dr. Maddox was a 1987 graduate of Coosa High School. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Berry College and her Master’s and Specialist Degrees from the University of West Georgia. In 2018, Dr. Maddox received her E. D. D. from Kennesaw State University. She was employed with the Floyd County School System as a teacher at the Floyd County Transitional Academy. Dr. Maddox was a Board Member with the Pulmonary Hypertension Association and was active in their work. She was an organizer for the P. H. A. Fun Walk for a Cure and was a co-founder of the Georgia P. H. A. Support Group. Dr. Maddox was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Shelby Harrell Maddox, to whom she was married on October 19, 1996; her son, Brandon Dale Keith Maddox; her mother, Mary A. Felkel, St. Augustine, FL; her father, Don Kinney (Debbie Riley), Rome; 4 sisters, Jeri K. Thornton (Julian), Jacksonville, AL, Brenda Boyd (Tony), Rome, Leize Shirah, Rome, and Kim Williams, Rome; a brother, Jimmy Felkel, Rome; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at 6:30pm at Calvary Baptist Church with her Pastor, Dr. Gary Graves and Mr. Zack Stegall officiating. Following the service, Dr. Maddox will be cremated in accordance with her wishes.

The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Tuesday from 5 until 8pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pulmonary Hypertension Association at phassociation.org. A link will be created in the near future to allow donations in memory of Sally.
