In late October (2018), Gordon Sheriff’s detectives initiated an investigation into a number of reports of fraud involving victims in different areas of the county. Following leads involving the fraudulent online use of credit cards, detectives focused in on three individuals residing on Hall Memorial Road near Resaca. On Monday, November 27, detectives and deputies executed a search warrant at a recreational vehicle (camper) at 909 Hall Memorial Road.
There, the detectives collected numerous articles of evidence (stolen property) including personal identification documents, credit cards and debit cards, bank account statements, and other mail, as well as methamphetamine and evidence of drug use.
The detectives arrested all of the camper occupants: Edward M. McNamara, age 62, Misty Jo McNamara, age 31, and Kevin Arthur Morgan, age 24, all of 909 Hall Memorial Road. Edward McNamara was charged with 2 counts of Financial Transaction Card Theft, 7 counts of Theft by Taking, Identity Theft and Possession of Methamphetamine. Misty Jo McNamara was charged with: 5 counts of Financial Transaction Card Theft, 13 counts of Theft by Taking, 2 counts of Financial Transaction Card Fraud, 4 counts of Identity Theft, Forgery in the 2nd Degree, and Possession of Drug Related Objects. Kevin Arthur Morgan was charged with: 2 counts of Financial Transaction Card Theft, 7 counts of Theft by Taking, Identity Theft, Forgery in the 2nd Degree, and Possession of Methamphetamine. Detectives believe that as part of their scheme, the trio stole mail from rural delivery mailboxes, as well as from post office boxes. The detectives also believe that the defendants had set up fictitious financial accounts in order to facilitate the thefts. The investigating detectives have identified more victims, both businesses and private individuals, and more charges are expected. All of the defendants are in the county jail pending judicial proceedings.
